Day trips from Barcelona: what to know before you go
Barcelona is exceptionally well-connected by regional rail. Sitges (35 km south) is the easiest day trip — 30–40 minutes on Rodalies R2 Sud, lovely beaches, no car needed. Montserrat is the most dramatic — serrated mountain peaks, a Benedictine monastery and excellent hiking, all reachable by FGC train and rack railway in about an hour.
Girona (37–40 min by regional or high-speed train) rewards you with medieval Jewish quarter, colourful riverside houses and intact city walls — one of the most underrated cities in Europe for its size. Combine it with Figueres (Dalí museum) on guided tours for about €87 pp.
